2012 National Awards in Excellence
Nomination
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 National Awards in Excellence. The 2012 National Awards in Excellence will be awarded for exemplary programs, projects, and products that have significantly contributed to addressing earthquake risk reduction through demonstrated achievements in earthquake mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery.
Overview
The Awards in Excellence are given every year by the Western States Seismic Policy Council (WSSPC). Every fourth year the award nominations are solicited nationally in partnership with the Northeast States Emergency Consortium (NESEC), the Central U.S. Earthquake Consortium (CUSEC), and the Cascadia Region Earthquake Workgroup (CREW).
Award recipients will be honored at the National Earthquake Conference in Memphis, Tennessee, where they will receive a specially designed plaque. Recipients will be featured in conference materials, the official National Earthquake Conference web site: www.earthquakeconference.org and the WSSPC website: www.wsspc.org.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a National Award in Excellence, nominated programs, projects, or products should represent a new and creative approach to the problems or issues in the category for which they are nominated; provide evidence of outcomes which have achieved its stated goals and objectives to this point; be applicable to other locations; and have been operational for at least one year (since December 2010).
Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Submission
Please submit the completed nomination form and all supporting documentation in electronic format (PDF or Word documents) to Amy Lewis, WSSPC Program Manager at alewis@wsspc.org. All materials are due to the WSSPC office no later than December 30, 2011.
The Awards Committee will meet in mid-January and recipients will be notified by the end of January 2012.

WSSPC 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award
Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 WSSPC Lifetime Achievement Award. The
2012 Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to recognize an outstanding leader in earthquake risk reduction who is still practicing in his or her profession. The recipient will have demonstrated throughout his or her career an extraordinary commitment, level of service, and contribution to earthquake risk reduction.
The Award recipient will be honored at the 2012 National Earthquake Conference in Memphis, Tennessee, where he or she will receive a specially designed award. Recipients will be featured in conference materials and the official conference website: www.earthquakeconference.org and WSSPC’s website: www.wsspc.org.
Submission
To make a nomination, provide the WSSPC office with 1) a completed nomination form (Note: nomination by two individuals is required), 2) two letters of recommendation, and 3) a one-page summary of the person's important accomplishments in earthquake risk reduction, preferably with a photo (head shot) that will be published on the WSSPC (www.wsspc.org) and National Earthquake Conference websites (www.earthquakeconference.org). Combine and submit all documentation jointly and in electronic format (PDF or Word documents) to Amy Lewis, WSSPC Program Manager at alewis@wsspc.org.
