WSSPC Members Vote in 3 Board Members for 2013-2015 Terms
John Parrish (GS-CA), Mark Ghilarducci (EM-CA), and Peter McDonough (At Large-UT) were voted unanimously to continue on the WSSPC Board. All three terms begin December 1, 2013 for 2 years. A current list of Board members is found here.

WSSPC Plans "Communicating with Policy Makers" Workshop
WSSPC will hold a 3-hour workshop with invited speakers the afternoon of May 2 after the National Earthquake Program Managers meeting and Awards in Excellence Luncheon in Seattle at the Marriott Downtown Seattle/Lake Union Hotel.
WSSPC Annual Meeting Schedule
WSSPC will hold its Annual Meeting in conjunction with the National Earthquake Program Managers meeting in Seattle. The WSSPC meetings will kick off with an Awards Luncheon Thursday May 2, followed by a Workshop and Committee meetings. The WSSPC Board and Annual Business Meeting will meet Friday May 3 in the morning. We will wrap up by noon on Friday. Click here for the latest meeting agendas.

2013 WSSPC Lifetime Achievement Award
The Western States Seismic Policy Council (WSSPC) is pleased to announce that Charles R. "Chuck" Real was awarded the 2013 WSSPC Lifetime Achievement Award in Earthquake Risk Reduction. WSSPC created the award to recognize outstanding leaders in earthquake risk reduction. This person will have demonstrated throughout his or her career an extraordinary commitment, level of service, and contribution to the application of earthquake risk reduction to public policy.

2013 Awards in Excellence Winners Announced
Oregon Emergency Management was named the winner of the Overall WSSPC Award in Excellence in 2013 for the Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program. Four other winnners were also named.

Basin & Range Province Earthquake Working Group II Makes Recommendations to USGS National Seismic Hazard Mapping Program
BRPEWG II met in November 2011 for the purpose of making consensus recommendations to the U.S. Geological Survey on 8 seismic hazard issues in the Basin & Range Province. The meeting was convened under the auspices of WSSPC, USGS, and the Utah Geological Survey. The Working Group’s report to the USGS is available here.

WSSPC Moves Office
We didn’t go far! Our new headquarters is in Suite 1236 in the same building - 801 K Street, Sacramento. We are co-located with the California Geological Survey’s headquarters. Our phone numbers remain the same.
WSSPC Releases Tsunami Report
WSSPC has released WSSPC Report 2011-01: "Tsunami Hazard Mitigation and Preparedness: A Perspective from State and Territory Tsunami Programs in the High Tsunami Risk Pacific Region". The report, prepared by WSSPC members from Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon, and Washington and the Pacific territories of Guam, American Samoa, and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, documents the importance and effectiveness of the state and territorial tsunami programs to prepare local communities at high risk for future damaging tsunamis.
